Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital 
The Department of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) is dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based critical care to patients with life-threatening medical illnesses. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is managed by a team of experienced intensivists, physicians, anaesthesiologists, resident doctors, and highly trained critical care nursing staff committed to delivering round-the-clock, high-quality patient care.
The department follows standardized, evidence-based protocols and multidisciplinary management pathways for critically ill patients, ensuring optimal outcomes. It plays an active role in teaching, clinical research, and the training of doctors & nursing personnel, and allied healthcare professionals in the principles and practice of intensive care medicine.
The MICU provides advanced management for a wide spectrum of critically ill patients, including those with severe sepsis and septic shock, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, acute poisoning, diabetic emergencies, neurological emergencies, renal failure, severe infections, and other complex medical conditions requiring intensive monitoring and organ support.
The Medical ICU is equipped with advanced critical care facilities including:
* Modern ICU beds with multiparameter bedside monitors for continuous hemodynamic monitoring.
* Advanced invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators with facilities for lung-protective ventilation and difficult weaning.
* High-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) support.
* Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) and bedside echocardiography for rapid diagnosis and procedural guidance.
* Arterial pressure monitoring and central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring.
* Facilities for ultrasound-guided central venous catheterization, arterial cannulation, pleural and ascitic drainage, and other bedside critical care procedures.
* Defibrillators, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, and emergency resuscitation equipment.
* Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and hemodialysis support in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology.
* Comprehensive infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship practices.
The department functions with a multidisciplinary approach in close collaboration with specialties including Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, General Medicine, Anaesthesiology, and Emergency Medicine to provide holistic care for critically ill patients.
