Introduction

The Department of Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery has been functional since its inception in 2016.

Facilities Available :

We have two fully equipped, independent operation theatres along with a dedicated 16 bedded CTVS Intensive Care Unit with a monitoring system and ventilator attached to each bed.  We have a team of doctors involving four faculty, eight Senior Residents and six junior residents.

Facilities Available :

Cardiac Surgery: We have been routinely performing all cardiac surgical procedures including beating heart coronary artery bypass grafting (off pump), valve repairs and replacements (mitral and aortic), septal defect closures, cardiac tumor excision, septal defect closures, pericardiectomy etc. with excellent results.

Thoracic Surgery: All routine thoracic procedures including decortication, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, pleurocutaneous window, diaphragmatic hernia repair, mediastinal mass excision, hydatid cyst excision are routinely performed by both open and minimally invasive techniques.

Vascular Surgery: A large number of vascular procedures are carried out routinely including aorto-bifemoral bypass, femoral-femoral by pass, embolectomy, AV fistula creation etc.

    Brief Profile:
    After, finishing his studies, he worked in Mission Hospital, Miraj Mahrashtra for seven years. He was the Head of the Dept in Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University. He worked in Texas Heart Institute with Dr. Denton Cooley, Houston, USA in 1987. He did his pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship from Sydney, Australia from 1994-95. He joined central health services in 1998 and started a new cardiac surgery department in ABVIMS and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital which is one of the finest government setup for cardiac surgery in the country. In 2009, he underwent training in minimal invasive and robotic cardiac surgery at St. Ontario, Canada. He was an executive member of Indian Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons .He played active role in starting Delhi Chapter of Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgery. He is an excellent teacher and has trained many young cardiac surgeons. He has more than 70 publications in various national & international journals. In 2022 he retired from Dr RML hospital and joined RGSSH. He has an experience of more than 35 years in cardiothoracic surgery and has done more than 10,000 cardio thoracic operations which include CABG, neonatal complex congenital cardiac surgery, valve replacement & other major cardiac procedures.
  2. Dr. Ajeet Jain
    Designation: Associate Professor

    MS, General Surgery (1994), SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan
    M. Ch., CTVS (1998), SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan

    Brief Profile:
    He has more than 15 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery while working in all apex hospitals in New Delhi. He has held many administrative posts in RGSSH and was the Nodal Officer during Covid 19 pandemic.
  3. Dr. Ankit Jain
    Designation: Assistant Professor
    Qualification: MBBS (2004 Batch), Subharti Medical College, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
    MS, General Surgery (2015), R D Gardi Medical College, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
    M. Ch., CTVS (2019), GB Pant Institute of Post Graduation and Medical Research, Delhi.

    Brief Profile:
    He has more than 3 years of experience in cardiac surgery. He has independently performed various valve replacements and coronary grafting. He has been actively involved in building up the department since the beginning and has more than 10 research papers to his credit.
  4. Dr. Prerna Singh
    Designation: Senior Resident
    Qualification: MBBS (2009) Batch: Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal University
    DrNB CTVS: National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, New Delhi

Teaching:
We have regular journal club, case discussions as well as combined meetings with the Dept of Cardiology and Pulmonology regarding patients requiring multi-modal approach. We have already applied to start a DNB programmer in CTVS in our department.
